Having the right tyres and correct alignment doesn’t only mean your car is more fuel efficient and performs better, it means you’re safer on the road too. We know how important it is to keep your tyres in the best condition possible, that’s why our team are on hand to check all is in working order and equip your vehicle with suitable tyres at a competitive price.
How to check your tyres
Tyres are the only part of a vehicle which are in contact with the road. Acceleration, braking, cornering and steering safety all depend on a relatively small road contact area. So it is extremely important to have well maintained tyres with a tyre tread depth above the legal limit to ensure maximum safety and performance. Here’s a couple of ways you can check your tyres:
✅ The coin test – place a 20p coin in the main tread grooves of your tyre. If the outer band of the coin is hidden by the rubber, then your tread is above the legal limit of 1.6mm… this means it’s time to get new tyres.
✅ Wheel wobble – if you’re experiencing your steering wheel vibrating at 40-50mph, you could need your tyres balancing or replacing.
✅ Steering pulls – have you noticed your car is veering in one direction? This likely means your tracking is out, or you have unmatched tyre pressures. Either way, we’d recommend visiting the team to resolve the issue.
✅ Sidewall damage – check the sides of your tyres for cracks, splits or blisters as these are also a sign your tyres need replacing.
✅ Tyre match – all of your tyres should have the same tread pattern and make.

Why choose winter tyres?
To put it simply, winter tyres are made differently to summer tyres. During the cold months, the weather changes and makes the roads unpredictable – with snow, slush, ice and black ice, along with freezing fog, wind and rain. Winter tyres are designed improve grip for everything the winter weather conditions throw at you. We offer a range of winter tyres and we always keep our prices competitive with independent suppliers by offering a Tyre Price Match Guarantee*.

Don’t forget about wheel alignment
Wheel alignment, also known as tracking, is a process that shouldn’t be overlooked. It ensures that your vehicle’s wheels are still giving you the optimum position.
You can sometimes end up with an incorrect alignment by simply knocking the kerb. Unattended, the results in your tyres can wear irregularly, but more importantly affecting the car’s handling and overall safety. It’s easy to spot when your tyres aren’t aligned as you’ll start to notice unusual wear on your tyres.
We recommend getting your wheel alignment checked annually to ensure you get the most out of your tyres. At John Roe, we’ll align your tyres and ensure everything’s in order for just £39.
