How the Motability Scheme works
The Motability Scheme allows you to exchange your qualifying mobility allowance for a stress-free lease on a brand-new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), scooter or powered wheelchair.
It is designed to make everyday mobility easier, safer and more comfortable — giving you greater independence and peace of mind. With the Scheme, you can choose from a wide range of vehicles to suit your lifestyle and accessibility needs. Many cars can also be fitted with adaptations, whether you need support with driving, help getting in and out of the vehicle, or solutions for storing mobility equipment.
Most adaptations are included at no extra cost, making it easier to tailor your vehicle to your needs. Your lease covers servicing, maintenance, breakdown assistance, tyre replacement and insurance for up to three named drivers, ensuring you can enjoy worry-free motoring from the moment you collect your vehicle.

Insurance
We’ll take care of your insurance, giving you complete peace of mind from day one. Your agreement allows you to add up to three named drivers — whether that’s yourself, a family member or a carer — and you can update or change these drivers at any time throughout your lease.
This flexibility ensures the vehicle can be used in the way that best supports your day-to-day mobility needs.
Breakdown Cover
We’ll provide full breakdown cover so you can travel with complete peace of mind wherever you go. If you choose a car or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), you’ll benefit from RAC assistance, giving you expert support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Whether it’s a flat battery, a puncture or an unexpected breakdown, help will be on the way quickly to keep you moving.
Servicing & MOTs
We’ll take care of all your regular servicing and routine repairs, ensuring your vehicle stays in excellent condition throughout your lease.
From scheduled maintenance to everyday fixes, everything is handled by approved technicians, giving you confidence that your car will continue running smoothly and safely without any unexpected costs or hassle.
EV Support
We’ll arrange a home chargepoint and standard installation as part of your lease, or alternatively provide access to the bp pulse network, offering more than 9,000 public chargepoints across the UK.
Availability of these options will depend on your individual circumstances and eligibility.
